friendly -flexible-fun-focused
I
I have worked within the NHS for 25 years as a Speech and Language Therapist. I am a Highly Specialist Therapist in stammering and have a clinical focus working with preschool; primary aged children and adolescents who stammer.
I also have extensive experience of working with children to develop other areas of communication e.g. children who are delayed in their talking or who are not very clear as they chat. I am also a registered Elklan tutor and have trained many settings and staff.
As a parent I understand the need to take a flexible, focused and fun approach to all sessions
I work using a person centred approach always keeping the wellbeing of the child/adolescent at the centre of all that I do
Sessions can be provided online.
I am a registered member of the Health Care and Professional council ,The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and the Association of Independent Speech and Language Therapists in Practice
I can work with the following areas of your child/ young person's speech and language
'
We will arrange a call to discuss how your child's language skills are developing. We can then determine if an assessment is needed. The initial assessment will include a case history from the parent/carer, assessment of language needs and with older children/adolescents a time to let them share their hopes. If your child /adolescent is stammering sharing their hopes is a very important part of their initial assessment to map out what the next steps are for them.
I also have a network of other speech and language therapy colleagues that I will refer you to after our telephone call if I feel that your child needs sessions that are not my clinical focus.
FEES:
· Initial call no charge
· Assessment which includes a summary report £130.00. Travel, 45p per mile.
Targets will be set for your child/adolescent and then sessions arranged so that we can all work to meet these targets in a timely and focused way. We will discuss progress after each session and ensure that all is in place for the best outcomes. The number of sessions will vary and will be discussed after the initial assessment.
FEES:
· £60 for 45 minutes
· £70 for 60 minutes
Travel, 45p per mile.
Outcome measures will be used to ensure that your child is progressing well with each session. It is very important to work together for the best outcomes. I work using a holistic and person centred approach always looking to keep the wellbeing of the child/adolescent at the centre of all that I do.
Please contact us if you cannot find an answer to your question.
In the free initial consultation we can discuss where your child/young person is up to. There are some language skills that will develop as your child matures and other skills that will require some help to progress.
Some useful websites are:
· stamma.org
· ICAN (see ages and stages information)
When I have completed my initial assessment I will share how many sessions I would recommend and we can discuss this together.
I have worked in the NHS for 25 years and will work closely with your NHS therapist
Stammering and stuttering both mean the same thing. You may hear your child pausing, repeating sounds or words as they chat.
Some children will go through a short time where they repeat words and whole phrases. It is important to get some advice if this continues or you are concerned. Early advice is very beneficial to everyone.
